Spartacus: Gods of the Arena

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena is a Starz television mini-series and prequel to Spartacus: Blood and Sand, scheduled to premiere January 21, 2011. The series follows the character Gannicus (Dustin Clare), the first gladiator to become Champion of Capua. Cast members and characters being reprised from the original series include Lucy Lawless as Lucretia, John Hannah as Batiatus, Peter Mensah as Oenomaus, and Manu Bennett as Crixus. Andy Whitfield will make a brief appearance as Spartacus.

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, unlike with the first season, deals with the tale of Batiatus, who made his own academy for gladiators and to overthrow his father’s might taking control of the whole bloody world of the ancient cruel game. Using his most prolific swordsman named Gannicus, he pushed this infamous warrior to flaunt his battling skill and convinced the noble men to support and fund the rising gladiator school called House of Batiatus. With his wife Lucretia at his side, Batiatus is very willing to risk and betray anyone just to reach his dreams.

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena stars by John Hannah as Batiatus, Lucy Lawless as Lucretia, Dustin Clare as Gannicus, Peter Mensah as Oenamaus, and Manu Bennett as Crixus. However, Andy Whitfields (Spartacus) is also making 2 appearances in the total of six episodes of the series.
